This is a true story that took place as Dad, Jim Mackie, reported it. This was a Dad & Sons trip to Colorado in the Summer of 2011

Some kid in jeans and a Green-Stix is what it is all about.

"This is not just any fish. This is THE FIRST. Mackenzie was anxious to try out his new Green-Stix and after a long drive from Michigan and days of business calls I finally agreed to stop late one afternoon as we were crossing the South Platt River down by Leadville. I got Mackenzie down to the river and told him he had only 15 minutes to try out his first fly rod. He learned to tie flys on his own and picked out one he made in the car on the trip out. I got him all set up and he told me to go back to the car and get the net. Just to humor him I turned for the car to get the net as he made his first cast of his life....all hell broke loose! Using his Green-Stix and his fly he got an immediate hit and landed it by himself. You would not believe the excitement. Not sure what kind of trout it was because we released everything he caught in the days that followed.

Nicholas liked his fly rod too but holding the trout was something Dad had to do.

The rest of these pictures of Mackenzie were taken on the Blue River near Silverthorne, West of Denver. Every time out he caught a trout on his Green-Stix.The water was high and fast in these rivers.

Mackenzie took his fly rod into fly shops out there and they would tell us that we needed heavier rods for the big fish in these rivers. They told us that his Green-Stix fly rod would break in two. Well, like Steve said the rod would bend almost in half and not break. In fact, we watched professional guides on the other side of the Blue River and they were loosing over half their fish after hooking them. Mackenzie from Michigan, first trout fishing trip of his life hooked them and landed 100%. I am sure the so called action of a Green-Stix fly rod is the difference between landing and losing a fish. Even in the hands of a novice with the pole bent in half and Mackenzie jumping up and down yelling in excitement the line never broke because the Green-Stix fly rod acted like a big rubber band and would give just enough to keep the line from breaking...Thanks again for the quality fly rods. I still can't believe how Mackenzie out fished the best guides in Colorado with all their fancy equipment.....Some kid in jeans and a Green-Stix is what it is all about." .....Jim Mackie
